Species-Specific Allometric Equations for Predicting Belowground Root Biomass in Plantations: Case Study of Spotted Gums (Corymbia citriodora subspecies variegata) in Queensland

چکیده

Spotted gum (Corymbia citriodora spp. variegata; CCV) has been widely planted, a wide natural distribution, and is the most important commercially harvested hardwood species in Queensland, Australia. It great capacity to sequester carbon, thus reducing impact of CO2 emissions on climate. Belowground root biomass (BGB) plays an role as carbon sink terrestrial ecosystems. To explore potential accumulation belowground, we developed validated models for CCV plantations Queensland. The roots twenty-three individual trees (size range 11.8–42.0 cm diameter at breast height) from three sites were excavated 1-m depth weighed obtain BGB. Weighted nonlinear regression reliable estimating evaluate candidate models, data set was cross-validated with 70% used training 30% testing. cross-validation process repeated 23 times validation averaged over iterations. best model predicting spotted BGB based single parameter, height (D) independent variable. equation = 0.02933 × D2.5805 had adjusted R2 0.854 mean absolute percentage error 0.090%. This tested against published equations; findings this are discussed. Our recommended allow improved estimates species.

Comparison of allometric equations to estimate the above-ground biomass of Populusalba species (Case study; poplar plantations in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province, Iran)

Carbon sequestration into plants biomass, especially in fast growing trees is an easier and economically way for dropping off CO2 from atmosphere. This study was carried out in order to investigate above-ground biomass of white poplar (populous alba, L.) plantations that was planted in fourdifferent plant spacing (0.5 × 0.5, 1×1, 2×2 and 4×4 m.) in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province in west of ...

Allometric equations for estimating belowground biomass of Androstachys johnsonii Prain

BACKGROUND The belowground component of the trees is still poorly known because it needs labour- and time-intensive in situ measurements. However, belowground biomass (BGB) constitutes a significant share of the total forest biomass. I analysed the BGB allocation patterns, fitted models for estimating root components and root system biomasses, and called attention for its possible use in predic...

Depth distribution of roots of Eucalyptus dunnii and Corymbia citriodora subsp. variegata in different soil conditions

Understanding depth distribution of roots may help develop an understanding of plant productivity and the limits to productivity by indicating which parts of the soil profile are being accessed for water and nutrients. The subtropical east coast of Australia provides climatic and soil conditions that produce some of the highest plant productivity rates in the country. This has been recognised b...

Allometric Equations for Aboveground and Belowground Biomass Estimations in an Evergreen Forest in Vietnam

Allometric regression models are widely used to estimate tropical forest biomass, but balancing model accuracy with efficiency of implementation remains a major challenge. In addition, while numerous models exist for aboveground mass, very few exist for roots. We developed allometric equations for aboveground biomass (AGB) and root biomass (RB) based on 300 (of 45 species) and 40 (of 25 species...

Evaluation of Relationships between Growth Rate, Tree Size, Lignocellulose Composition, and Enzymatic Saccharification in Interspecific Corymbia Hybrids and Parental Taxa

In order for a lignocellulosic bioenergy feedstock to be considered sustainable, it must possess a high rate of growth to supply biomass for conversion. Despite the desirability of a fast growth rate for industrial application, it is unclear what effect growth rate has on biomass composition or saccharification. We characterized Klason lignin, glucan, and xylan content with response to growth i...
